Hidden Mould Requiring Expert Remediation Gladesville NSW
Incident Overview
High Demand Restoration was engaged to carry out mould remediation in a room where significant mould growth was present against the external of the property. Prior to attendance, wall openings had already been created, and visible mould growth was observed within these sections.

Inspection and Findings
Inspection confirmed visible mould growth inside wall openings, including hyphae and mycelium. Mould was also present on the ceiling near ducted ventilation and above the window, along skirting areas, and on the aluminium window frame. Mould was found within multiple layers of gyprock along the external wall, extending into the room.

Moisture readings taken across the external wall and surrounding areas were within dry range at the time of testing, including areas where mould was visible. Cracking and warping of skirting boards were also observed, indicating previous water exposure.

Remediation Works
Before starting removal works, the room was sealed and a containment area was set up to control the spread of mould spores. An Air Filtration Device (AFD) was installed and operated throughout the works.
The ceiling was removed in areas where mould was present, including below ducted ventilation and above the window. The first layer of gyprock along the external wall was removed, where mould was identified in multiple locations. A second layer of gyprock behind this was also found to have extensive mould growth and was removed.

Loose insulation was removed due to the risk of containing mould spores. Light mould found on foil-backed insulation was treated and removed.

All affected areas were then treated with Decon30 to address remaining mould on surfaces and airborne spores. Final cleaning works were completed, including mopping, HEPA vacuuming, and cleaning of surrounding common areas to leave the site clean and tidy.

Why This Matters
Mould can grow within wall cavities and behind multiple layers of materials, even when surfaces appear dry. Proper containment, removal of affected materials, and treatment of remaining areas are important to reduce the spread of mould and maintain a safe indoor environment.
The Result
All mould-affected materials were removed under controlled conditions, and remaining areas were treated and cleaned. The room and surrounding areas were left clean, contained, and stable, ready for any further works if required.
