Groundwater Flooding After Heavy Rain – Sydney Academy of Sport Narrabeen Flood Restoration

November 17, 20252 min read

Even facilities built for high performance can experience setbacks when nature takes over. Following recent heavy rains, groundwater entered the gymnasium and adjoining kitchenette at the Sydney Academy of Sport, causing widespread water damage and contamination throughout multiple areas of the property.

Before Restoration – What We Found

Floodwater affected multiple areas of the facility, leaving behind moisture including Cat 3 water, mould growth, warped flooring, and bubbling walls—requiring thorough decontamination, removal of damaged materials, and controlled drying to restore the building safely.

During Restoration – Our Process

We flushed and wet-vacuumed the entire gym floor before applying a botanical sanitiser to remove contamination and mould. In the kitchen, we removed damaged scotia, skirting, and flooring, installed a plastic containment wall, treated all surfaces, ground back bubbling paint, and set up drying equipment. Across the bathrooms we removed peeling paint and stabilised moisture levels with drying units, and we completed a full safety inspection of the fuse box to ensure no electrical components were compromised.

Why This Matters

Overland floodwater carries contaminants that can quickly lead to mould growth and long-term structural damage if not properly remediated. Simply drying the surface is not enough — affected materials need to be physically removed, cleaned, disinfected, and dried using controlled methods.

By using containment, botanical disinfectants, moisture meters and professional drying equipment, we ensure the facility is restored to a safe, hygienic, and fully dry condition before reinstatement works begin.

After Restoration

With contaminated materials removed, all areas treated, and drying completed, the building is now ready for new kitchen flooring, repainting of affected walls, and replacement of damaged doors and frames.
